Cottonwood News: Summit program set for Thursday

We went up to Cottonwood Butte to get our Christmas trees Sunday. It was beautiful weather and a fun day. There was not much snow up there yet. The Advent Penance Services are all at 7 each night. Thursday, Dec. 14, St. Anthony’s, Greencreek. Monday, Dec. 18, St. Mary’s, Cottonwood; Tuesday, Dec. 19, Sts. Peter & Paul, Grangeville; and Wednesday, Dec. 20, Holy Trinity, Nezperce.

Clearwater Valley Junior Senior High School’s Winter Concert is set for Wednesday, Dec. 13, 7 p.m., in the CVHS cafeteria. This will feature both bands and choirs in 6-12 grades playing and singing Christmas and holiday music.

High-Five From Santa Following Cottonwood Christmas Parade

Santa Claus gives children a high-five following Sunday night’s annual Cottonwood Lighted Christmas Parade. Brightly lit entries from community organizations and the city paraded down King and Main streets, followed up by refreshments at the Cottonwood Fire Department Hall, and visits with Santa Claus.

Cottonwood News: Christmas parade is set for Sunday

The Haiti 2018 mission team is selling Christmas poinsettia plants again this year for $14. If you would like to buy one for yourself or someone else, contact Debbie at the parish office or another Haiti team member. They will arrive Dec 14, for delivery or pickup. The group of young people appreciates your support.

Tax bill includes new roads levy, higher garbage service fees

With notices in the mail, some who own property in Idaho County have seen a big new tax on the bill. Others have seen a tax rate lower than it was last year, but some of those who have seen their rates dip are still owing local governments more overall this year due to a rise in county solid waste fees. Still others – namely, those whose property is served by the Idaho County Road & Bridge Department – have seen both a higher solid waste fee and a significantly higher overall tax rate due to the new levy, which the county commission began considering last summer and approved in September.

SM/CV embark on diabetes education program; Hospitals to utilize five-year grant funds

St. Mary’s (Cottonwood) and Clearwater Valley (Orofino) hospitals are among the eight program grantees supported through the new $16 million, five-year Merck Foundation initiative, Bridging the Gap: Reducing Disparities in Diabetes Care. The grant is awarded to help mobilize community-based partners and to improve diabetes care for vulnerable and underserved populations, and SMH-CVHC are the recognized leaders in rural health care in the state of Idaho.

Cottonwood News: Movie being filmed in area

I received this article from Frances Conklin at Dog Bark Park: “On Nov 21st parts of an independent feature film were filmed in and around Cottonwood. The film, tentatively titled ‘Mischief Upon Mischief,’ is an alien-abduction PG 13 thriller that from what I have heard contains a bit of everything including guns, hospitals, and romance. One of the producers, and leading actor, Jeffrey Decker, grew up in Lewiston and now works in Los Angeles.

Holiday Happenings - Nov. 22, 2017

•The Grangeville Lions Club’s annual Christmas Tree sale starts Saturday, Nov. 25, at Green Acres and continues every weekend through Dec. 17. Proceeds support the scholarships the club provides to GHS students who take their educations to the next level. Last year’s successful Christmas Tree sale and the club’s other fund-raisers allowed the Grangeville Lions to provide three $2,000 scholarships for GHS graduates. The tree sale is located at Green Acres and runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday through Dec. 17.
