Area 10th graders recruited for career training pilot program

Lewis-Clark State College and its partners are recruiting 90 area high school students for training preparing students for entry-level manufacturing jobs as part of a free two-year pilot program. Informational events for interested students and their parents or guardians will be held 6:30-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29, in Grangeville; additionally, on Nov. 30 (Clarkston), Dec. 7 (Orofino), Dec. 11 (Moscow) and Dec. 13 (Lewiston).

Family Read Week Chess Lessons

Open house scheduled Nov. 29 at Kooskia Library; Library has new items to showcase

Kooskia Community Library invites the public to an open house Wednesday, Nov. 29, from 2-5:30 p.m., at 026 S. Main (next to Kooskia City Hall). The library has new tables and chairs, improved 24/7 Internet service through AirBridge Broadband, Lego kits and more. Lisa Puckett, technology and education coordinator for PRLD, will also be there to introduce Talking Books Service (TBS) for print-disabled readers and demonstrate the equipment.

Share the warmth:Youth coat drive set at GEMS

Mrs. Bush’s 4/5 class (Grangeville Elementary Middle School) is holding a coat drive! We shall be accepting donations of coats. We are going to give these to coatless kids, because we would like to make sure nobody at our school is cold this winter. We will have a drop box by the GEMS office and near the school library during the craft fair (Saturday, Dec. 2). Items can also be dropped off at the school office any time. We will only be accepting new and gently used coats, from now through Dec. 8. Please donate!

Community breakfast at St. Catherine’s Nov. 29

The free monthly community breakfast at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church will be held on Nov. 29, from 8:30-10 a.m. Breakfasts are held every month on the last Wednesday of each month. St. Catherine’s Catholic Church is located at 7th and Idaho streets in Kamiah. The breakfast this month will be pancakes, scrambled eggs, coffee, orange juice, friendly faces and conversation. St. Catherine’s invites all in the community.

•The Grangeville Lions Club’s annual Christmas Tree sale starts Saturday, Nov. 25, at Green Acres and continues every weekend through Dec. 17. Proceeds support the scholarships the club provides to GHS students who take their educations to the next level. Last year’s successful Christmas Tree sale and the club’s other fund-raisers allowed the Grangeville Lions to provide three $2,000 scholarships for GHS graduates. The tree sale is located at Green Acres and runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday through Dec. 17.

Donate meat for holidays

Holiday meats can be donated at Les Schwab for Camas Prairie Food Bank. Meats, as well as other donations, can also be donated directly at the food bank on Tuesdays or Fridays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A donation box is also at the back door for their facility located at 411 E. North Street (corner of Florence and North streets) across from Les Schwab. For information: 208-507-2365.

Kamiah parade set

•Kamiah Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting is set for Friday, Dec. 1. Lineup is 5 p.m., judging at 5:30 p.m., and the parade starts at 6 p.m. An Ugly Sweater contest will be held at the American Legion Hall about 6:30 p.m., and Santa will make an appearance.

Kooskia winter festival scheduled

•Kids Winter Festival is set for Clearwater Valley Elementary School gym Friday, Dec. 1, 2:45-6:30 p.m., cost is $20 per child. Parents are invited at 5:30 p.m. for wreath making and dinner at a cost of $5. This is for students K-8, Call or text to sign up: 208-451-3538.
